چکیده

In this work we introduce the concept of Random Early Detection (RED) to a medium access control (MAC) protocol applicable to the W-CDMA UMTS access interface. The concept is in general applicable to MAC protocols that use channel load information to regulate the access to a CDMA channel. By making the analogy of a CDMA channel as if it was a queuing system of certain capacity, RED prevents the onset of outage due to multiple access interference, in the same way that it prevents a burst of packet losses in an IP buffer. As a result, a substantial improvement in the stability of the protocol is achieved, for a wide range of input traffic loads.

UMTS access network architecture for multimedia services

In this paper a scheduling mechanism is provided within a proposed UMTS access network architecture, employed to perform a QoS experiment. W-CDMA is the strongest candidate for the air interface technology of UMTS which will comprise both a terrestrial part (T-UMTS) and a satellite part (S-UMTS). Dynamic Resource Scheduling (DRS) is proposed as a framework that will provide QoS provisioning for...

W-CDMA random access channel transmission enhancement for satellite-UMTS

The random access channel (RACH) is an uplink shared channel for initial channel access to the network as well as for short data bursts. In this paper, we propose modifications to the RACH preamble for satellite-UMTS using higher order of Hadamard codes, and it is shown that these enhancements have a better performance than that of the current Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifi...

Performance of W-CDMA UMTS radio access interface with mixed traffic

The provision of multimedia services to mobile users is one of the main goals of Third Generation (3G) systems. The traffic being transferred within 3G mobile networks will be composed by different information flows with various constraints on the required QoS (bit rate, delays, etc. . . ). In order to reach such a goal, 3G standardization bodies have designed highly-flexible radio interfaces, ...

Systems engineering of data services in UMTS W-CDMA systems

In this paper we address issues concerning technology selection for non-real time, near real time and interactive data services for 3G W-CDMA systems. Specifically, we compare the packet mode of operation with the circuit mode of operation in UMTS W-CDMA. We show that the use of packet channels such as the Common Packet Channel (CPCH) and Forward Access Channel (FACH) lead to an order of magnit...

Congestion Avoidance in IP Based CDMA Radio Access Network

CDMA is an important air interface technologies for cellular wireless networks. As CDMAbased cellular networks mature, the current point-to-point links will evolve to an IP-based Radio Access Network (RAN). mechanisms must be designed to control the IP Radio Access Network congestion. This Paper implements a congestion control mechanism using Router control and channel control method for IP-RAN...
